Description

AND THERE GOES MY EVENING.

I took a break from working on requests to draw some Homestuck fanart, because I haven't done any legit fanart in a long time. SO YEAH. And I've been really enjoying Homestuck as of late.

Karkat and Terezi are probably my favorite characters in the story so far (I've still got so much to catch up on, it's ridiculous.). Karkat because I always like crabby sarcastic characters, and Terezi pretty much because she's one of the more funny and interesting of the trolls.

I tried to bump up my colouring here, using a suggestion a friend gave me about light sources. I'm pretty satisfied with the results. Also, another quick n' dirty background. The anatomy and proportions might be sort of off, because this was originally going to be from a downward perspective, but it didn't look right, so I had to do a bunch of fixing.

/goes back to working on those requests.

Homestuck, Karkat, Terezi, (c) Andrew Hussie so I don't get sued or something

I agree with Toast (and others) in their critique, but one thing I noticed personally was the lack of shadows under their faces. You want the face to appear to be a rounded, 3d thing, not a flat plane, so adding a chin shadow (like on the top of the neck) really helps sell that they don't have flat faces.

Also, and this is a colouring/consistency thing, but try to keep your shadows consistent, unless you're varying them for, like, dramatic purposes or something. Their foot shadows are really dark but the ones on their bodies are barely noticeable. In that vein, I want to make a suggestion:

Redo the shadows on their bodies in line with your shadows on the ground. Put the light source behind them and make a MEGA DRAMATIC LIGHTING SITUATION. I will give you the pic I have for my icon as a ref, you basically bathe the whole thing in shadow except the edges (where a bit of light is creepin). TRY ITTTT
